Time is a sneaky thing…

Instead of feeling like this:

I want to feel like this:

^^^Yeah go ahead and watch that 72 more times, you know you want to!

Anyways…

Where has time gone?! It’s such a sneaky thing isn’t it.
3 weeks left of school.
Only 5 days of classes left and then finals.
36 days until I leave the country for 6 weeks in East Asia.

My mind is blown. I am feeling slightly crazed as I type this. There are butterflies in my stomache as I realize that I have enrolled for my senior year in college and though I will take a victory lap and graduate a year later, it seems the end is so near.

I am feeling nostaligic for something that isn’t even over! It seems silly, but if there is ever an event to be nostalgic over it would be this.

So many papers, projects and deadlines in these next few weeks. I’m trying to keep my head on straight and keep my sanity. I’ve been eating lots of candy and trying to take as many naps as possible. I’ve never doubted the importance of the little things!

Having Class Under a Tree and Other College Wonders.

I have been reminded lately that these days… these days where we are surrounded by friends and youth and shenanigans and craziness are some of the best in our lives. I believe it too. I believe that if we do not allow ourselves to take advantage of this time that we’ve been given then we are doing a HUGE disservice to ourselves.

Yesterday I had a 3 hour class out on the lawn underneath a beautiful big tree. I got a sunburn and took a nap afterwards because I was tired from the sun. It was an absolutely beautiful afternoon. I almost got caught up in the stress of my day though. That stress was trying to steal my joy and I didn’t let it! Sometimes it’s that simple: take that negative thought and simply dismiss it.

Today I feel like I have been a robot of super productivity! Wahoo!! That always feels good! This week is really busy not only because the end of the semester is approaching quickly but because it is ROCK THE HALLS week!!!!

Rock the Halls is an event put on by the Washburn Residential Council where residents get to participate in a week long event of games and friendly competition! So far students have won Garmin GPS systems and a Wii!! It’s been a lot of fun and tonight is the Bedazzle Your Cupcake competition! The winners will receive a kitchen set of utensils and wonderful cooking goodies! Tomorrow night 2 BlueRay players will be raffled off! How cool!

I can definitely say that it is important to take advantage of these awesome events put on by our Residential Living staff and other cool WU organizations because it gives you an opportunity to bond with your neighbors and meet new people. PLUS you could win some pretty SA-WEET prizes!!

Other than Rock the Halls I’m preparing for a 6 week summer trip overseas, I got enrolled for my Senior year (CRAZY!), busy interviewing for a Fall internship and trying to keep my sanity until May 13th!

So take a deep breath, exhale fully and take a break today to enjoy this FANTASTIC spring weather! You’ll be much better off if you do, I swear!

Spring Break in GIF’s

It’s strange to me that I can spend every waking moment of my busy school-filled day, daydreaming about what it would be like to take a nap or just veg out in front of the couch… but as soon as I get that opportunity I’m looking for something to do. Must be my grass-is-always-greener syndrome.

All in all though this break really has been great! I have gotten some much needed down time and though I haven’t done any homework that I said I would to get ahead I have realized that I knew all along it wouldn’t get done and so I’ve decided not to sweat the small stuff.

Accomplishments:

1. Eating home cooked food on the daily.

2. I saw Tangled for the second time. My heart can’t contain how cute this movie is.

3. Spending some much needed time with my pets and my fam.

4. Spending wayyyyy too much time on Tumblr.

5. Sleeeeeeeping!!

6. Finishing Season 6 of Lost so now I’m done now and forever. I may not know what to do with myself… So. Many. Tears.

5. In less than 24 hours I read Fight Club the novel and then watched the movie. All I can say is…. weird.

So yes, that is my break in a nutshell, I’m gonna watch some KU Basketball with some friends later and have a game night back on campus! It’ll be fun!

Wishing you much lovely!

A girl who reads… :)

“Date a girl who reads. Date a girl who spends her money on books instead of clothes. She has problems with closet space because she has too many books. Date a girl who has a list of books she wants to read, who has had a library card since she was twelve.

Find a girl who reads. You’ll know that she does because she will always have an unread book in her bag. She’s the one lovingly looking over the shelves in the bookstore, the one who quietly cries out when she finds the book she wants. You see the weird chick sniffing the pages of an old book in a second hand book shop? That’s the reader. They can never resist smelling the pages, especially when they are yellow.

She’s the girl reading while waiting in that coffee shop down the street. If you take a peek at her mug, the non-dairy creamer is floating on top because she’s kind of engrossed already. Lost in a world of the author’s making. Sit down. She might give you a glare, as most girls who read do not like to be interrupted. Ask her if she likes the book.

Buy her another cup of coffee.

Let her know what you really think of Murakami. See if she got through the first chapter of Fellowship. Understand that if she says she understood James Joyce’s Ulysses she’s just saying that to sound intelligent. Ask her if she loves Alice or she would like to be Alice.

It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books for her birthday, for Christmas and for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry, in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but by god, she’s going to try to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does.

She has to give it a shot somehow.

Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.

Fail her. Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who understand that all things will come to end. That you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two.

Why be frightened of everything that you are not? Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop.

If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are.

You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype.

You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Aslan, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snow off your boots.

Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.

Or better yet, date a girl who writes.”

We don’t remember days, we remember moments.

This weekend was so good. It was intellectually stimulating and emotionally charged and filled with love and friends and wonderful realizations of the beauty of life.

Without these kind of experiences I don’t know how we could continue on with the sometimes painstaking monotony of life. It is truly the experience of love and the shared existence with friends that keeps me going sometimes and so for that, I say thank you. Thank you for talking in my room till 5am, thank you for the smiles and the incessant laughter. Thank you for the adventures and the seemingly boring nights alike. They are both wonderful and necessary in their own ways.

These are the nights I will recall days, weeks, years from now and smile deeply because of what we’ve shared together. I am feeling nostalgic already for these last few days filled with wonderful moments and thoughts.

It’s times like these that though I can see the exhausting week I have ahead of me, I feel no worry or stress because I am so at peace, so rested after enjoy the company of those I love most.
